Downcast App Reviews

Good app

Since Apple ruined their podcast app about 6 months ago Ive tried a lot of different apps and Downcast is by far the best one out there. There are a few problems, but they update the app often so many are fixed quickly. Pros: Very in-depth settings Easy to use interface Supports all my podcasts Cons: Skip forward and back settings do not work for main interface, only for remote Touch controls are very small for some functions, hard to use on first try

The best Ive tried

I use this app daily and never think to go looking for a new podcast app. Very small annoyances (why can I control playback speed up to 2.5x, 2.75x, 3x, but the only option slower than 1.0x is 0.5x?) but overall fantastic. Frequent updates to fix the minor bugs that crop up every so often--Active developer.

Well done

This is a well done podcast app, one complaint after the recent updates is the responsiveness has been reduced considerably, tapping the back arrow while listening to a show can take 1 to 5 seconds to respond, it used to be immediate.

My favorite

I have tried many other podcast apps but I always seem to come back to this one. Its my favorite one. The only improvement that I would like to see would be some sort of option for the app to tell me if a podcast has been played (like mark played if youve listened to x%) because I dont always listen to the end.

My most used app

I love Downcast and use it daily. It makes subscribing and updating my favorite podcasts easily. Would highly recommend!!

Slooooow on iPhone5

Have been using Downcast for at least a year now and LOVE how customizable it is. BUT in the past few months it has become quite sluggish and crashes periodically. I have the latest version of iOS installed. Given all the glowing reviews that I continue to receive, I can only assume the problem is that my phone is getting "old" by smartphone standards and cant keep up with an app designed for those young whippersnappers with a 6 in their name. Its techno-ageism, I say!

iOS & MacOS iCloud Sync Not Good, Otherwise Great App

I’ve tried pretty much every podcast app out there and IMHO Downcast is by far the best option as a standalone app. I also purchased the MacOS version, also great. What isn’t good is when you attempt to hook them up to iCloud to sync between the 2. Even if it works at first, eventually something happens and podcast subscriptions begin to disappear. Not a huge deal to add them back, however, I’ve lost some obscure ones that I can’t recall the details of so therefore I can’t find them to re-add them. I’ve given up on sync and shut that part off, now I use them separately on my MacBook and iPhone.

All I have used for the last 4 years

Dont use apples junk podcast app. This had better features and wont crash

Robust podcast client

This client is intuitive, easy to use, and is fantastic. Major props to the developers for not only making such a wonderful program, but also being that it is accessible to voiceovers. Well done!

Only some small problems

Ive been using Downcast for years and am a big fan. Theyve made a lot of improvements which only make it better and better My one complaint is the most recent update broke something that wasnt an issue before: while listening to a podcast, when you go into the app, switch to another app (go out of it), or power off the screen, there is a small skip in the audio. Definitely gets annoying!

Use it every day, I love it. Keep the updates coming.

I give the dev team a lot of credit for keeping the updates coming. Sure, sometimes something breaks, but Downcast is by far the best full-featured podcatcher I have used. Thanks for being on the ball, you guys.

Very buggy lately...stay away!

Stay away from this app until they get the bugs worked out. Ive been waiting patiently for the developers to get the bugs out, but the latest version is horrible. I loved this app for years, but now Im looking elsewhere.

Horrible at refreshing podcasts!

I dont know why I keep revisiting this app every 6 months or so. Every time I try it there are always issues. Things like slow to refresh, sync issues, and not updating in the background. They just cant get it right.

Good podcast app

Better than the default iOS player. Worth your cash & time. Only request would be a quick way to tell which eps you actually have stored on the device other than scrolling thru episode lists.

Good podcast app, some compatibility issues

Ive really tried to stick with downcast for a while, I was happy to use something other than the podcast app from Apple. My only complaint is it hasnt been playing nice with use of Siri or speech-to-text for texting and then going back to playing. It has a lot of great subscription and playback options for power users. It has some discoverability for new podcasts, but not as easy to find as with the default podcasting app.

PiP works great but please add split view support

This app is one of the best podcast apps available that does both audio and video. However it would be great if it could be updated to support the new iPad multitasking features like split view/slide over so I can keep it on the screen while using other apps. The new update for Picture in Picture is great so I hope more of these features can be implemented soon
